Santa Pola Aquarium Description
The Santa Pola Aquarium was opened by the Municipal council in 1983,
See all the local species of fish & underwater plants of the Santa Pola Area. Look out for the more interesting species such as Loggerhead Sea Turtle, groupers, bass and Seahorses in the aquariums 9 glass fronted tanks that are located in an area of 707 square metres.
The council promote the aquarium as both an entertaining and an educational attraction and the need to conserve the Mediterranean Sea.
Closed on Sunday afternoons and Mondays.

El Palmera Park & Roman Villa Description

Santa Pola Castle Fortress
The fortress was built in the 16th century as a defence against the Barbary pirates who occupied the nearby Island of Tabarca.
The fortress is square in shape with 2 bastions jutting out on diagonally opposite corners. The 2 or 3 story buildings are set into the 4 walls leaving a parade ground and a water system in the centre. A tall bell tower is located over one of the gates.

The Island of Tabarca is located 3 miles west and slightly south of Santa Pola. Once the home of barbary pirated, the reason for the building of Santa Pola Fortress & Watch towers

Santa Pola fish port
Fishing port Description
Santa Pola is the busiest Spanish Fishing port in the Mediterranean, and consequently has a busy fishing market where the catches are auctioned every week day from 5pm.
Visit a bit earlier if you want to se the fish being lifted from the boats to the quay.

Santa Pola is blessed with 11 kilometres of beautiful blue flag beaches. To the east around the headland are several small beaches in secluded bays & coves. Nearer to the town are larger beaches.
